[SOLD OUT] [Workshop] Haiku on Steroids with Michael Dylan Welch

February 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Kick off February’s National Haiku Writing Month (NaHaiWriMo) with a generative writing workshop led by Michael Dylan Welch. We’ll cover what haiku really IS, in North America and Japan, which is not what most people think it is (no, you don’t have to count syllables). Then, with that as a baseline, we’ll explore ways to break as many rules as we can. Taboo topics, concrete word arrangements, whatever you can think of. Exploring an imagistic focus with haiku can also help your longer poetry or fiction. Are you in? Reserve your spot here.
Michael Dylan Welch is the founder of NaHaiWriMo, longtime officer of the Haiku Society of America and Haiku Northwest, director of the Seabeck Haiku Getaway, and cofounder of the Haiku North America conference and the American Haiku Archives at the California State Library. His haiku, longer poems, translations, essays, and reviews have appeared in hundreds of journals and anthologies in at least twenty languages. They’ve also been performed for the Empress of Japan, chiseled in stone in New Zealand, printed on balloons, read at the Baseball Hall of Fame, and printed on the back of a 150 million United State postage stamps. His website (which also lists his books) is www.graceguts.com. Also visit www.nahaiwrimo.com.
