Join us this afternoon for signings by Amaranth Borsuk and Sarah Mangold, two cracklingly lively contemporary poets, both Seattle-based and, coincidentally, both with brand new books from Kore Press.
Ms. Borsuk, whose latest is Pomegranate Eater, was described as “a dervish with words” by Susan McCabe, and this collection of poetry is indeed a sonic pleasure and sensual delight worthy of the ecstatic. Also on hand will be ABRA, Ms. Borsuk’s recent collaboration with Kate Durbin, and the republication of her collaboration with Brad Bouse, Between Page and Screen, an interactive page-screen book.
Giraffes of Devotion, Sarah Mangold’s enchanting restructuring of material from her great-grandmother, a U.S. naval officer’s wife in the era of military expansion before the Second World War, is a singular work. The personal immediacy, the knowing, near-view perspective of colonial appropriation, makes Giraffes of Devotion (the title is culled from a lovely Robert Duncan epigraph) an intelligent and highly moving read.
