On April 28, 1995, we unlocked the door to Open Books: A Poem Emporium for the first time, and you walked in. You kept walking in, bless you, and so here we are. Let’s have a little party, shall we? Nothing fancy, nothing over the top (you know what we’re like), just a chance to be a bit giddy over the way poetry books and the readers and writers of poetry books have helped to shape all our lives. Meet us over at the Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center (just around the corner from the bookstore). We promise cake, some music by Eyvind Kang and Jessika Kenney, some words by Washington State Poet Laureate Elizabeth Austen, a tiny bit of reminiscence by us (perhaps with Q & A), time to chat with fellow poetry-lovers, and most important of all, our gratitude.
