JOSHUA BECKMAN
Mr. Beckman, who splits time between Seattle and New York and is an editor for Seattle-based Wave Books, will read from his latest collection, Shake, ($12, Wave). His work is remarkable for its generosity. While Mr. Beckman writes a sometimes challengingly fragmentary poetry, he is also by turns colloquial and chatty. His intelligence and presence leave one feeling welcomed throughout his work. His concerns are nearly boundless: cultural and social structures, spiritual fullness and emptiness, and simple everyday actions bind and embrace the soul that moves through these poems. And lest we mislead you, Mr. Beckman is often very funny.
