ELIZABETH AUSTEN & TIM SEIBLES
This is sure to be an evening of dynamic readings by two writers who, though of different backgrounds and aesthetic styles, share a love of language and of the world, and a sense of justice as well as a sense of humor. Mr. Seibles' most recent collection is Buffalo Head Solos, ($16, Cleveland State Univ.), a passionate volume, sometimes in outrage at America's racism, consumerism, and arrogance, sometimes in ecstatic praise of the pleasures the body can give. His poems are an embrace, a jolt, a plea for wakefulness. Ms. Austen has just released Skin Prayers, ($10 compact disc), a recording of her poems. The CD's title suggests the sensuality found in her work. While the touch of her poems is gentle, it is not soft. Plaintive, joyful, contemplative, and ultimately accepting of life's mystery, her work reveals a questioning mind and a questing heart.
