GEOFFREY NUTTER
Water's Leaves & Other Poems ($13 Verse) is a collection of Mr. Nutter
's charming and surreal poems. There is a lovely, lullaby-in-action feel to
his work, and his imagery is terrific: "The sky above, in clouds, turned
like a cement mixer." One happily follows him through mysterious, dream-like
places and scenes: "Someone walked into the kitchen, said / 'cormorant' just
like that. / As if he'd never heard the word." We have seen Mr. Nutter read
twice before and both times he sang some of his poems. Perhaps he'll sing
this evening, too.
