CATHERINE WING
Ms. Wing's first book, Enter Invisible ($13.95 Sarabande), contains
sharply witty poems that combine language as direct as that found in
instruction manuals with a wild comic verve. She is masterful in her control
of various forms (alphabet poem, ghazal, and others) and word-play abounds.
Ms. Wing often employs full rhyme the way writers of great nonsense verse
always have -- as a tool both silly and sorrowful. "The acrostic / had a
message for Tom, a caustic // morsel, an acidic tidbit, clue #5: 'Hey
Catnip,' / it said, 'Is your partner satisfied?'"
