BRUCE BEASLEY
Lord Brain, Mr. Beasley's latest collection, is an exhilarating
melding of science, history, philosophy, and personal narrative. Lord Walter
Russell Brain was a neuroscientist, and his work, along with the work of
other scientists, informs these poems. But the title is also suggestive of
the book's fearlessly questioning yet reverential meditation on the brain as
lord of the soul, and on the Lord made manifest in and through the brain.
The language, at times richly lyrical and at other times stuttering and
fractured, serves the poems' subjects elegantly and naturally. "--All's / a
slow molt & occult / regeneration into song."
