JOSHUA BECKMAN
Whether it's his lengthy, and often moving, contemplations of the vagaries of living and love or his deft urban haiku, Mr. Beckman's work is generous and intimate, a genuine invitation. His most recent collection, Your Time Has Come, is a pleasure to read and hold. A small, oblong book of brief yet vivid poems, it makes one ponder the notion of Basho wandering Manhattan -- "Some man on a bicycle / playing his radio. / What world doesn't he rule." His is a voice at once solitary and communal. As he writes in a poem from his earlier collection, Something I Expected To Be Different, "Bruised and seeking perfection / there are hundreds of us on every corner."
