JOANNIE KERVRAN STANGELAND & DAVID HOROWITZ
Ms. Stangeland's latest chapbook, _Weathered Steps_ (Rose Alley), traces a literal journey west, its tragic consequence, and the reclamation of the self. Ms. Stangeland handles this with lyrical aplomb, as in the lines, "This is the history / that keeps my breath visible," from "Knitting." Mr. Horowitz's new book is _Resin from the Rain_ (Rose Alley). His work is unlike most everything currently being published. He is steeped in Western European formal conceits and willingly, even gleefully, expresses opinions. The poems are short and often epigrammatic. "Chair," in its entirety, reads, "A stone / can be a throne."
